ℹ Overview of the Hyperliquid L1
Hyperliquid is a high-performance Layer 1 blockchain designed to power a fully onchain, open financial system. Built from first principles, it integrates liquidity, user-facing applications, and trading into a unified platform aiming to host the future of global finance.
At its core, Hyperliquid uses HyperBFT, a custom consensus protocol inspired by HotStuff, offering one-block finality and optimized networking for fast, reliable execution.
The protocol is divided into two main layers:
- HyperCore: A native onchain engine powering perpetual futures and spot order books with full transparency and high throughput—handling up to 200,000 orders per second.
- HyperEVM: A general-purpose smart contract environment compatible with Ethereum, enabling developers to build on top of HyperCore’s trading infrastructure using familiar tooling.
Together, these layers make Hyperliquid a performant, composable, and permissionless base layer for next-gen financial applications.
