Frozen stablecoin funds: USDT, USDC and TUSD contracts
As of 7 October 2026, blacklisted addresses hold $3.38 billion of USDT on Tron, $857 million of USDT on Ethereum and $122 million of USDC on Ethereum. Tether has also destroyed $602 million of USDT on Tron and $857 million on Ethereum to date. The Global Stablecoin Map reads these figures from the issuers' contracts.
Frozen now and destroyed
Some stablecoin contracts keep a blacklist. An issuer adds an address to it, and that address can no longer send tokens. The tokens stay in the address and stay in the coin's supply. We call the balance of blacklisted addresses frozen funds.
Some contracts go one step further. The issuer can destroy the balance of a blacklisted address. The tokens leave supply at that block. We call the cumulative total of these events destroyed funds. Frozen funds is a balance today. Destroyed funds is a running total of past events.
USDT on Tron and Ethereum
USDT on Tron has 7,765 blacklisted addresses. 4,963 of them hold a balance, and together all of them hold $3.38 billion. Tether destroyed $602 million of USDT on Tron across the contract's history.
Two Tron addresses hold $344 million between them, about $213 million and $131 million. Both are on the blacklist. The Block reported Tether's freeze of those wallets on 23 April 2026, after the wallets were flagged by US authorities.
On Ethereum, 2,791 addresses are blacklisted and 1,424 hold a balance. They hold $857 million. The contract has emitted 1,284 DestroyedBlackFunds events, and the amounts sum to $857 million. The frozen and destroyed totals are two separate measures that happen to be close.
We recounted both chains' frozen balances by calling balanceOf on every blacklisted address on 7 October 2026. The results differed from our stored figures by 0.07% on Ethereum and 0.01% on Tron.
Tether stated in February 2026 that it had frozen about $4.2 billion of USDT over three years. That is a cumulative figure and it is not comparable to a balance held today.
USDC
USDC on Ethereum has 652 blacklisted addresses, 152 of which hold a balance, holding $122 million. Circle's contract can freeze an address. It has no function to destroy the balance of a frozen address, so there is no destroyed total for USDC.
The two largest blacklisted USDC addresses hold $30.1 million and $27.7 million. Etherscan labels them Multichain Suspicious Address 2 and 6. We track USDC on other chains. Those figures have not been independently verified yet, so we do not publish them here.
TUSD
TUSD on Ethereum has $579 thousand in blacklisted addresses. In one transaction in 2024 (block 20225066), $1.23 million was destroyed.
Recent large freezes
Freezes of $10 million or more on issuer contracts in the last 90 days, newest first. Each row is a freeze event: the issuer's contract blocked the address from sending tokens.

The amount is what the frozen address held. A freeze event carries no amount, so DIA reads the balance from the chain: at the freeze block where the node serves that state, and otherwise from a later read (marked †: the destroyed amount, or the balance of an address that stayed frozen). Only balances read at the freeze block are charted. Frozen tokens stay in supply. The map covers the last 90 days of events. 1250 of 1517 recorded freezes are not in the charts because their balance at the freeze block was not read (12 still waiting for a read).

Which contracts can freeze and destroy
The table lists the coins among the 20 largest USD-pegged coins by circulating supply on 7 October 2026 whose contracts we could read. That is 15 of the 20. It reports the Ethereum deployment unless another chain is named. Other chains can differ from Ethereum: USDT, for example, can destroy frozen balances on 13 of the 18 chains we read.
| Coin | Supply (USD bn) | Can freeze | Can destroy a frozen balance |
|---|---|---|---|
| USDT | 184.30 | Yes | Yes |
| USDC | 74.21 | Yes | No |
| USDS | 7.11 | No (Solana: yes) | No |
| USDe | 4.96 | No | No |
| DAI | 4.79 | No | No |
| USD1 | 4.44 | Yes | No |
| USDG | 3.09 | Yes | Yes |
| PYUSD | 2.86 | Yes | Yes |
| RLUSD | 2.53 | Yes | Yes |
| USDf | 1.66 | No | No |
| USDD | 1.56 | No | No |

Nine of the 15 can freeze on Ethereum. Five of those nine can also destroy a frozen balance: USDT, USDG, PYUSD, RLUSD and A7A5. We track frozen balances for PYUSD, A7A5 and the other coins in the table. Their figures are not independently verified yet, so they are not in this article.
How we count
Frozen tokens stay in supply and in circulating supply, because the issuer still owes them and can release them. Destroyed tokens leave supply at the block of the event. Holders are addresses with a balance above zero, frozen addresses included. The full rule is in the data sources section on frozen and destroyed funds.
Where the figures update
The blacklist size and the frozen balance of each coin update with every snapshot on the map. A new freeze shows as a change in the frozen total. A destruction shows as a drop in supply at the block of the event. Coin pages carry both series for the coins we have verified.
