What is Rollux?

Rollux, Syscoin's official Layer 2 solution, is an optimistic rollup developed by SYS Labs. Leveraging Optimism Bedrock, Rollux offers EVM equivalence, boasting close to 1:1 parity with the standard EVM.

Distinguishing itself from Optimism and Ethereum, Rollux integrates the security of Bitcoin's mining network and Syscoin's decentralized Layer 1 finality and data availability. Additionally, Rollux pioneers decentralized sequencing in an innovative manner.

Moreover, Rollux natively provides Layer 2 data availability, positioning it to support Layer 3 and beyond for "fractal scaling". With its robust security, scalability, low costs, and potential for global mass adoption, Rollux represents a significant advancement in blockchain technology.

How does Rollux support the Bitcoin ecosystem?

EVM Equivalence: Rollux provides EVM equivalence and is close to 1:1 parity with standard EVM. Rollux goes further than Optimism plus Ethereum by providing the security of Bitcoin’s mining network and Syscoin’s decentralized Layer 1 finality and data availability.

Decentralized Sequencing: While the non-profit Syscoin Foundation currently operates the sole sequencer on Rollux, it's important to note that this doesn't grant them the ability to censor user transactions. However, there's a collective desire to decentralize the sequencer progressively, potentially eliminating the foundation's role, and allowing anyone to participate as a block producer. SYS Labs researchers are actively tackling the challenge of decentralized sequencing innovatively, aiming to implement it within Rollux. The ultimate objective is to facilitate multiple concurrent sequencers in a Byzantine fault-tolerant manner, striving to achieve a level of decentralization akin to or as close as possible to the Layer 1 design.

Simplicity: Rollux prioritizes simplicity, aiming to streamline its design while delivering essential features. By minimizing complexity, Rollux achieves a secure, scalable, and adaptable Layer 2 system. This simplicity offers several advantages over intricate Layer 2 constructions, enhancing efficiency and usability.

Decentralized Cross-Chain Processing: Rollux facilitates seamless communication between smart contracts on Rollux and Syscoin, enabling the transfer of assets, including ERC20 tokens, across both networks. The mechanism for this communication varies based on the direction of message transmission. Through its Standard bridge, Rollux empowers users to deposit assets such as ERC20s and SYS from Syscoin to Rollux, as well as withdraw the same assets from Rollux back to Syscoin, leveraging this functionality to facilitate interoperability between the two networks.
