About the DeFi Vault Map: What It Is & How It Works

What is the DeFi Vault Map?

The DeFi Vault Map is the most comprehensive resource for understanding the DeFi vault and lending ecosystem. It organizes the entire vault supply chain into six interconnected layers, each with live data pulled directly from on-chain sources.

The Six Layers

The vault ecosystem is not a single product category. It is a supply chain with distinct roles, each handled by specialized protocols and entities:

  1. Asset Issuers — Protocols that create the tokens deposited into vaults: stablecoins, liquid staking tokens, and yield-bearing assets.
  2. Vault & Lending Platforms — The smart contract infrastructure where vaults live: Morpho, Euler, Aave, Compound, and others.
  3. Risk Curators — Entities that set vault parameters: which collateral to accept, what borrowing limits to enforce, and which oracles to use.
  4. Yield Optimization — Aggregators and strategists that route capital across vaults for maximum returns: Yearn, Beefy, Sommelier, and others.
  5. Infrastructure Providers — Oracles, keepers, bridges, and other services that vaults depend on to function.
  6. Liquidity Providers — DAOs, treasuries, and institutional allocators that supply capital into the ecosystem.

Data Sources

All data on the vault map comes from on-chain reads and verified API sources. The pipeline runs a 30-phase cron cycle that reads directly from smart contracts across 16 chains, enriched with data from DeFiLlama, DIA Oracles, and protocol-specific APIs. No data is manually entered or editorially curated.

For full transparency on data sources and calculation methodologies, see the Data Sources & Methodologies page.

Who is this for?

The vault map serves anyone who needs to understand the DeFi vault ecosystem:

  • Depositors researching where to allocate capital
  • Risk analysts evaluating vault exposure and concentration
  • Curators and protocol teams benchmarking against peers
  • Researchers studying the vault supply chain

Built by DIA

The DeFi Vault Map is built and maintained by DIA, a cross-chain oracle infrastructure provider. DIA collects, validates, and delivers financial data from on-chain and off-chain sources to smart contracts across 40+ blockchains.
